On May 30th, 2020 ATMI senior producer Cornilius Nelson attended the Icantbreathe Social Distance Rally, a peaceful protest against police brutality in the wake of George Floyd’s death by officers of the Minneapolis Police Department.
Cornilius brought his camera and audio recorder along to document the event. Using interviews and audio he collected, he created a segment for our radio show about the event and his feelings on the Black Lives Matter movement.

After a visitor to his apartment tested positive for the coronavirus, ATMI producer Logan Smith took the responsible step to get himself tested, an experience he calls “very black market.”

Before Covid-19 was declared a pandemic, ATMI producer Ryan Danigole’s father got a job out of state and the whole family was set to move to Albany, New York. Now that we are in the midst of a pandemic, the Danigole family is still planning to move this summer.

While the Alaska Teen Media Institute studio is closed amid the Covid-19 pandemic, staff and youth producers are working from home to continue to bring youth stories to the public.
