The Anchorage Press Returns | Zoom Room #56
The community of Anchorage hasn’t seen physical copies of the Anchorage Press since it published its last print edition in 2022, after 30 years in operation. Much like the Seattle Stranger or the Village Voice of New York City, the paper was known for being gritty, hyper local, and free of charge.
Earlier this summer, it was announced that the alt-weekly newspaper would return. It was purchased by journalist Nat Herz and former nonprofit leader Veri di Suvero, with support from Noisy Creek – which owns alt-weeklies across the country, including the Seattle Stranger, the Portland Mercury, and the Chicago Reader.
On Wednesday, September 2nd, the first edition of their new monthly iteration of the Anchorage Press will hit coffee shops and grocery stores across Anchorage.
ATMI producer Edison Wallace-Moyer sat down with Nat and Veri to discuss this new chapter for the paper. They talked about the impact the Anchorage Press has had on the community, the logistics of bringing a paper back to life, and the new ideas they’ll bring to the project.
They spoke on August 19th, two weeks before the publication of their first print issue in its new form.
