Arctic Youth Explore Polar Bear Safety
Alaska Teen Media Institute and the Alaska Nanuuq Commission hosted media-production workshops in rural communities in the Arctic.
Students learned how to produce video and audio Public Service Announcements. They increased their knowledge of polar bear awareness and safety in and around Arctic communities. The project focused on methods to reduce human-polar bear conflicts in communities through key messaging from Elders and best practices.
VIDEO: Students in Point Hope, Shishmaref and Wales, Alaska interviewed adults and elders about what to do if they encounter a polar bear.
This project is funded by Defenders of Wildlife and supported by the Alaska Nanuuq Commission.
