Staying safe in Shishmaref is very important because polar bears sometimes wander nearby. The town has a few warning systems to do just that. Having dogs is very important because they’re used as a mode of transportation and as a warning siren. The Washeteria is a great place to shower and it also has a siren that blares when a bear is around.
