Students in Shishmaref don’t see that many bears near the village but they have an alarm on their washateria that rings to warn the whole community if a bear is spotted. Also, dog mushing is a big part of their life so the dogs warn them when a bear comes around. It’s important to keep an open ear for warning signs.
Students in Point Hope say it is very important to assume you might see a polar bear any time you head outside.
Students in Wales don’t worry about seeing polar bears too often. The bears typically keep clear of the village. But they are always keeping an eye in the distance just in case. A bear came right up near the school a few years back.
