Useful notes for editing with Audacity

 

To import audio…

 

Project àà Import audio    OR    FileààImportààAudio

Browse to the audio you would like to import, select and click “OK.”

 

To delete…

 

Highlight the portion you would like to delete and then hit delete on your keyboard.

 

Note: You can undo a delete immediately after you delete if you mess up.

Editàà Undo delete.

 

Make a new track…

 

Projectàà New audio track (mono)    OR    TrackààAdd NewààAudio Track

Projectàà New stereo track

 

How to copy and paste audio…

 

Use your cursor to highlight the audio you would like to copy.  Hit Control C.

Place your cursor where you would like the audio to be pasted. Hit Control V.

 

Play a track…

 

Place your cursor where you would like to start playing the track and then press the space bar to play.

 

How to mute or solo a track…

 

On the left hand side of the track there are two buttons one for mute and one for solo. Use these when you want to listen to your audio one track at a time.

 

How to create silent space…

 

Place the cursor where you want silence.

Generateàà Silence

Specify how many seconds of silence you would like and press “Generate Silence.”

 

How to create a fade in or fade out…

 

Highlight the portion you would like to fade.
